before taking this class i found out i knew so little about my own culture. Taking this class i got a chance to dig a little bit deeper into the filipino history as well as other culture like the korean community in Sa i gu, about the Chinese exclusion act...
Before this class i had no clue to kpop (korean pop music), it has opened my eyes and ears to a whole new world of music. I listen to everything and now have a new found respect to kpop
Before taking this class I never knew that Hmong was even a race until we read "The Latehomecomer". I never knew there was a race that didn't have a homeland. They went through a great deal of struggles and gave up so much to get here. Just for that, I have mad respect for them. This made me thankful to have the life I live now and that I did not have to go through struggles like them.
Before taking this class I didn't know that most well known YouTube users were Asians. Now I realize how much the Asian American community has evolved over the years.
Before taking this class, I never knew how popular k-pop was in America. I knew about it because of my Korean and other Asian friends, but I didn't know that non-Asians were so into it as well.
I learned a lot about important dates and other cultures. I learned much about the Hmongs! I learned a lot about other people in the class and thoroughly enjoyed the class as a whole.
Before this class, I assumed that only Asians listened to Korean Pop music. I guess that just like every other genre in music, it isn't only limited to one group of people. I'm still not sure as to why people who don't speak/understand Korean listen to the music, but that's a question for another day. Probably the beats and the way it sounds.
