so i went to eat at chipotle, and bought a steak bowl.. the guy before me (of spanish descent) got a bowl as well. His bowl was stacked up from rice to beans to meat..coo! when mine came, i got less than half a bowl, minimum amounts of beans, sauces, corn.... i had to ask for more rice and ingredients.. which in turn made me feel super-cheap-asian... any thoughts?
Well, many times people seem to feel comfortable in helping their own ethnicity like when hanging out with friends I tend to hang out with many asians and I see many white people hanging out with white people, indians with indians, etc. Its just something similar so its kind of like an icebreaker that makes it easier to associate with them.
ReplyDeletewas it because i was asian? and they think asians dont eat alot? and other "heftier" stereotypical races eat way more than scrawny asians?
ReplyDeleteI would say your server was racial profiling.
ReplyDeleteI assume both the server and the guy before you were Mexicans. One possibility might have been the Mexican guy who ordered comes very often or they possibly know each other that the server gave him a bit extra. I think you were given your average amount of meal like everyone else would get. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteI have the same opinion like what Ken Kuroda said. I think the server knew each other so he gave extra beans, rice, etc
ReplyDeleteIt has nothing to do with "super-cheap-asian", It was the restaurant's mistake. Maybe you should ask them..."hmmm...since you cut my portion into half, may I pay you half price too?" ;p
ReplyDeleteYeah that happens to me sometimes, though people think that I'm Hispanic so when i order Mexican food I usually get large portions and they would ask me things in Spanish and I would respond back in Spanish (Yay for taking three years of Spanish in High School!) but I'm not Mexican, I'm Filipino, but a lot of people assume I'm Mexican so maybe that is why I get big portions of food. You shouldn't feel super-cheap-asian at all, they obviously gave you a lesser portion, you have to get your money's worth!
ReplyDeletehe probly knew the dude working and got hooked up. LOL well i have never expierenced this i might have to pay more attention nexttime.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason I think would be that the guy knew the worker and hooked him up with more.
ReplyDeleteFrom my experience probably a friend of the server or maybe the person just got lazy. But the extreme is that he does not like asians! In all cases pretty unfair.
ReplyDeleteI also think that instead of being racial profiling, it was more of the guys knowing eachother
